The National Restaurant Association is one of the largest trade shows in the country. For years, the Iowa State University Hospitality Management has exhibited information about the program to prospective students and recruiters. Food safety educational materials are featured - such as give away refrigerator thermometers with the project web site embossed. HRIM faculty members Bob Bosselman, Susan Arendt, Lakshman Rajagopal, Catherine Strohbehn, John Kramer and Dawn Fiihr attended the Show May 21- 24th in Chicago at the McCormick Place Convention Center.

This year, Dr. Susan Arendt led a food safety educational session to about 50 industry practitioners. She presented findings from the USDA SafeFood© Motivators project and walked participants through use of the Motivators Tool Kit. There was keen interest expressed by audience members with supervisory responsibilities about how to establish a food safety culture in their operations; this Tool Kit is a resource that will help them accomplish that goal.

Students from the HRIM program also attend and gain valuable information from other exhibitors about the newest products available for retail foodservices. These include new food and beverage products, new equipment items for production or service; new marketing or merchandising tools; and point of sale ordering and accounting systems.
Stephanie Armbrust attended the H.I.R.E. reception at the Willis Tower in Chicago and helped staffed the ISU Booth.
