Developing a HACCP plan for your retail foodservice? Check!
Recently, HRIM Extension, with partial support from a WOI grant, released a HACCP in Retail Foodservice web-based, non-credit course that can be completed anytime, any where and at any pace. Those who complete the course will be able to set up a HACCP plan in their foodservice organization. Food safety is a concern for all retail operations and a HACCP plan is an excellent tool to mitigate risks of food borne illnesses. HACCP plans are operation-specific and MUST be tailored to the facility, menu, food procurement form, equipment, etc. In order to answer questions of how to control risks from food borne illnesses, operators need to know what questions to ask. This course provides that background.
The course is offered through Iowa State’s Web CT Gold online learning system, which is accessible for six months after registration. The next access period begins June 1, 2009. Additional information and access to register for the course can be found on the HACCP in Retail Foodservice page or by contacting Janell Meyer.
The course consists of seven different modules - each comprised of a narrated Power Point presentation, supporting documents, further resources, as well as an interactive quiz to test understanding of the content. The total cost for the six month access and all seven modules is $195.00. All correspondence regarding receipt of payment, course access instructions, and course completion acknowledgement can be made electronically via email. This course offering is truly convenient and science-based.
