Summer short courses have been offered for Iowa school foodservice managers since 1948. The program was started by Majorie McKinley, PhD, former chair of the Department of Institution Management (Currently the Department of Apparel, Educational Studies and Hospitality Management) at Iowa State University. Today these courses are co-sponsored by the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa State University Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management (HRIM) Extension program.
