Extension,
partners offer super way to ensure food safety
To help grocers excel in their expanding role as restaurateurs,
the Food Marketing Institute rolled out SuperSafeMark, a
food safety program for grocery store and retail food managers. Iowa State University Extension
is conducting training
sessions for the national program.
PROSPER
strengthens families and schools
Extension's
PROSPER program uses research-based substance abuse
prevention and family-focused parenting education to improve family well-being
in communities.
New
Farm Family Project to grow dairy industry
Opportunities for economic development exist throughout Iowa,
including the state’s dairy industry. That is why ISU
Extension, the Northeast Iowa Community-Based Dairy Foundation and others
are working to expand the industry through the Iowa
New Farm Family Project.
New
direction will address economic development challenges
ISU
Extension’s outreach to Iowa communities
is changing. The restructured program area has a new director who is leading
the development of a virtual clearinghouse of Iowa economic development
technicians and educators.
Farms
-- the place to learn about soil and water conservation
Iowans have a new
way to learn about conserving soil and improving water quality. Iowa farmers,
cooperating with ISU Extension, are ready to “teach
as they learn” through on-farm demonstration plots. Seventeen farmers
are implementing conservation practices on 38 sites as part of the Iowa
Learning Farm project, a five-year study.
Invasive
species featured in ISU Extension display at State Fair
The ISU Extension display at the Iowa State
Fair Aug. 11–21 will identify invasive
species that are threatening the state. Look for the display in the exhibit hall under the east end
of the grandstand. The display hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day of the
fair.
CIRAS
provides industry with energy efficiency guidance
Iowa industries are interested in energy efficiency for two
very good reasons — production costs and environmental stewardship.
So ISU Extension’s Center for Industrial Research
and Service (CIRAS)
connects them with energy efficiency resources and best practices.
