The Extension Connection: 2004 Annual Report Edition

Continuing Education
and Communication Services

Continuing Education and Communication Services (CECS), in cooperation with the ISU colleges and Extension field staff, delivers off-campus credit courses, degree programs, service-learning programs, noncredit conferences and seminars and ISU Extension educational materials to learners around the world.

• CECS coordinated distance education courses in 20 degree and certificate programs, offering 677 courses; this is an 11 percent increase in course offerings from the previous year.

• CECS served 4,309 students enrolled in distance education credit courses in 271 communities located in 91 Iowa counties.

• CECS facilitated 250 conferences for more than 44,000 participants.

• 35,000 people visited Iowa State University’s educational exhibit at the 2004 Farm Progress Show.

• CECS printed more than 600 new, revised or reprinted publications and newsletters, representing more than 2 million units of printed items; 628,295 hard-copy educational materials were distributed throughout the United States and to 20 other countries. In addition, nearly 5 million publications were downloaded from Extension’s Web site.

• 48 students participated in Life In Iowa internships, working and providing nearly 4,800 hours in volunteer community service in 29 counties.
