A quarterly publication of Iowa State University Extension More Extension centennial events planned Nearly 300 people braved a spring snowstorm to attend
the kickoff reception and dinner celebrating 100 years of Extension in
Iowa. On April 7 they traveled to Hull, in the far northwest corner of
the state, the birthplace of Iowa Extension. In 1903, a farmer from Hull asked Iowa State agronomist Perry Holden
whether the universitys research was applicable in northwest Iowa.
To find out, Holden and the Sioux County Farmers Institute established
the nations first county cooperative experimental farm. Other Extension centennial celebrations will be held with the following
events: Check the Web for more information about Extensions centennial.
