Extension began in Iowa in 1903, 11 years before the national cooperative extension network was established. Life in Iowa brings more university students to communities. products boost Iowas economy. Across Iowa efforts
are under way to boost the economy while decreasing the nations
reliance on petroleum-based products. Iowa State University Extensions
Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) is working with two
federal programs to help Iowa in these efforts. 4-H kits teach students the latest in navigational technology. More than 2,000 Iowa students have used global positioning system (GPS) kits available through Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. Extension horticulture resources increasing with client interest. Iowans with questions about lawn care, garden pests and perennial flowerbeds are calling on Iowa State University Extension for answers at an escalating rate. Extension is responding by expanding the resources that offer readily available answers. Todays Ag brings ISU Extension to your TV. The half-hour weekly Todays Ag program delivers Iowa State University Extension information into homes in Iowa and the Midwest on a regular basis. Iowa lightens up with exercise, fruits and vegetables. This year 11,377 adults on 1,363 teams are participating in Lighten Up Iowa, a joint effort by the Iowa Games, Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Iowa State University Extension to help citizens lose weight by exercising and eating more fruits and vegetables. Expanding institute meets nonprofit training needs. Nonprofit employees and volunteers are receiving needed training through the Nonprofit Management Institute, established by Iowa State University Extension in partnership with the United Way and the ISU College of Design. |
