Co-op directors trained for world of big business. In cooperation with the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives, ISU and Nebraska join their Extension forces to create an education team that makes a huge economic and social impact in both states. Together they offer a Director Certification Program (DCP).

eGovernment offerings appeal for relevance, currency. Sometimes a course has high appeal because it is relevant to current trends in society. In the case of the eGovernment curriculum concentration offered for the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree at Iowa State, the entire lineup seems to hit that mark.

ISU Extension floats idea, becomes partner in new Mississippi River Museum. A partnership with the Dubuque County Historical Society opened an avenue for Iowa State University Extension to provide research, curricula and evaluation materials to the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium.

Manufacturing assistance center marks 40 years of service. State lawmakers created the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) 40 years ago, placing specialists across the state and housing the center at the university in Ames. As CIRAS marks its 40th year, director Ron Cox noted industry has progressed in the state through varying economic times, yet CIRAS’ role in providing knowledge and assistance remains as vital as ever.

GIS is integral resource and data management tool. Iowa decision-makers – from those in rural municipalities to those at state universities – have ready access to geographic information systems (GIS) and related technology, thanks in part to an Iowa State University facility and an ISU Extension coordinator.

Youth keep promises to Iowa. Community service and improvement projects have happened across Iowa because groups of Iowa youth have received “Iowa’s Promise … Our Youth” grant funding. In 2003, the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service in partnership with Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development awarded $7,500 to 38 youth groups in 25 Iowa counties.

ISU Extension 'trains the trainers' in parenting education. The Partnering with Parents program helps educators strengthen their delivery of parenting education throughout Iowa. It’s one of several family programs offered by Iowa State University Extension.

The Agricultural Management e-School (A.M.E.S.) offers ag management education to farmers, educators and service providers. These Iowa State University Extension courses are entirely online and cover topics such as finance, ownership and leasing arrangements, human resource management and grain marketing.

“Forty-two percent of the more than 300 people who have taken A.M.E.S. courses say the thing they liked most was the ability to work at their own pace and at times that fit their schedules,” said Tim Eggers, ISU Extension’s A.M.E.S. program coordinator.
