2002 Annual Report Edition of The Extension Connection

A message from the vice provost for ISU Extension.

Citizens guide and support ISU Extension. Citizen advisory groups guide ISU Extension in delivering the university’s knowledge base to improve the lives of Iowans.

Extension engages Iowans in urban areas. Urban Iowans, as well as the state’s rural residents, benefit from ISU Extension’s programs.

Food safety education reaches Iowa and beyond. ISU Extension aims to ease Americans’ concerns about food safety.

Immigrants empowered with Community Voices. Iowa communities have sought support from ISU Extension and the Community Voices program to reach diversity goals.

AgMRC Web site helps entrepreneurs succeed. ISU Extension’s Agricultural Marketing Resource Center (AgMRC) is a “one-stop shop” for value-added agriculture.

Businesses streamline, improve bottom line, thanks to partnership. The Iowa Manufacturing Extension Partnership (IMEP) and the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) help Iowa manufacturers implement lean manufacturing for improved productivity.

4-H volunteers learn to develop young people. Each year more than 10,000 Iowans volunteer their time to Iowa State University’s 4-H Youth Development program.

Farm Progress Show: Education ‘in the field.’ ISU Extension’s continuing education services are extended by, literally, going to the field for the Farm Progress Show.

Farm Bill education benefits farmers, landowners. ISU Extension developed the 2002 Farm Bill education program to help farmers understand and make decisions about the new bill.

Education through technology brings solutions for rural Iowa. A joint venture between ISU Extension, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and Lighthouse Communications Inc. will help bring affordable Internet service to rural Iowa.
