Dubuque school children are experiencing AmeriCorps -- sometimes referred to as the Peace Corps in America -- thanks to Partners in Learning. This academic support and cultural and recreational enrichment group was formed when ISU Extension in Dubuque County brought 17 education partners together.

Iowa 2010: Share the vision

More than 3,000 Iowans participated in 80 open meetings this spring. They were talking about "The New Face of Iowa," a report outlining a vision of Iowa in the year 2010. ISU Extension worked with Gov. Tom Vilsack’s Strategic Planning Council to organize the public meetings.

AgrAbility supports farm families

When traditional farming procedures become difficult due to disabilities, Iowa farmers and farm families need new and creative ways to use their abilities. Helping them make the transition is Iowa AgrAbility: Innovations That Work for Home and Farm. It’s a cooperative project of ISU Extension and Easter Seals Iowa.

 

Extension helps bring citizens into city governance decisions

Citizens are bringing a new perspective to city decision-making thanks to Citizen Initiated Performance Assessments, a joint effort by ISU Extension, the University of Iowa Institute of Public Affairs, the Iowa League of Cities and nine Iowa cities.

 

Special funds support families, youth at risk

Perry, Sioux City (West Side area) and Davenport (LeClaire Heights area) will be home to new CYFAR efforts getting under way. The Children, Youth and Families at Risk program is administered through ISU Extension.

Strengthening families to become the best

"Strengthening families to become the best" kept Iowa State University focused on families during the 2000-2001 school year. The celebration featured opening-day displays at the Iowa State Fair, campus events and seven community visits throughout the state.

 

Get that degree through BLS Across Iowa

Iowa State University has teamed up with the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa to provide Iowans the opportunity to receive a Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) degree in a flexible program called BLS Across Iowa. Courses are being offered over the Iowa Communications Network (ICN).

 

Iowa prepares for possible foot-and-mouth outbreaks

Iowa’s agriculture-related groups want to keep foot-and-mouth disease out of the United States. So to plan for possible outbreaks of this economically crippling disease, a state taskforce formed by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge has been developing plans to deal with any worst-case scenarios. ISU Extension is playing a key role in this process.
