Dealing with Year 2000

Business failures as a result of the Year 2000 computer bug could have a $100-$300 million impact on Iowa's economy, says Willem Bakker, director of the Iowa Manufacturing Technology Center (IMTC), a part of ISU Extension. Iowa manufacturers need to consider the effect on computer systems and infrastructure as well as on products, research and development, and equipment on the factory floor. IMTC can direct companies to services for Year 2000 compliance, and will conduct awareness and assessment seminars this fall. Call IMTC, (800) 637-4634, for a checklist to better prepare for this challenge.

Money 2000

More than 700 have enrolled in ISU Extension's Money 2000. They're making spending plans, saving for home repairs, planning ahead for college costs and getting lower-interest credit cards. Participants like this do-it-yourself approach to improving their economic well-being. Said one, "I'm working on it myself, but like having someone to guide me when I have questions."
