Welcome to Extension Connection This quarterly newsletter will keep you informed about how Iowa State University Extension is serving the citizens of Iowa. ISU Extension has been connecting with Iowans since 1903. Our programs support agriculture, sound environmental management, growth of business and industry, and stronger families and communities. We develop life skills of youth and offer distance access to university degree programs and conferences. Our major goal for the 21st century is to help make Iowa more competitive for the private sector, in the supply of public services and as an attractive place to live. We are pleased that the State of Iowa increased the base funding for Extension in 1999 for the first time in many years, adding resources to make it possible to meet these goals for service to Iowa. A growing and successful ISU Extension program is key to ISU achieving its objective of becoming the best land-grant university. We plan to use the newsletter to better inform citizens about ISU Extension and to invite comments and suggestions about how we are doing and what we can do better. We want you and other Iowa citizens to feel connected to ISU and ISU Extension.
