Why work at a summer camp?
At the Iowa 4-H Center, each fun filled day provides the opportunity for new adventures - allowing everyone the chance to grow and develop. Staff members bring energy and excitement to a program of challenging and creative outdoor activities for their campers. In the role of camp counselor you will be developing and demonstrating life skills while helping the campers understand the importance of belonging, independence, generosity, and mastery.

Who are these jobs for?
Summer positions at the Iowa 4-H Center are for hard working, enthusiastic people who enjoy fun and fellowship. It is work for dedicated individuals who have a sincere desire to teach children and have a positive impact on their lives. The work is demanding of your time, energy and emotions, and requires a great deal of self-motivation, patience, and creativity. It takes the kind of person who can have a positive attitude - anywhere at anytime! Staff come from throughout the United States and from around the world. Staff are, without question, the key to happy and healthy campers and a successful summer camp. We are looking for those very special individuals who enjoy, and have the skills, to work with children in the camp setting - 24 hours a day.
Basic staff information
- Minimum age for full-summer staff is 18 years of age by May 26, 2009. We prefer candidates with college experience. Students of all college majors are encouraged to apply.
- Work days are May 26-August 12, 2009. July 3 and 4 are non-paid holiday breaks. Staff are given 24 hours off each week (usually on the weekend) and we try to schedule break time each day. Staff are required to work at least one weekend during the summer.
- Most positions require that staff live on-site for the summer.
- 4-H membership is not required to attend our camps or to work on our camp staff.
- Each staff member receives a salary plus: air-conditioned housing, meals, internet access, a staff lounge, laundry facilities, staff shirts, training, necessary certifications, and camp store discounts.
