Develop the ability to recognize hazards and how to correct them, plus share your safety awareness with others. Select one area, and seek out information on safety needs. Possible areas are home, chemicals, animals, electrical, fire, recreational, tractor, machinery, and traffic.

 

If you are already signed up for this 4-H project, come on in and get started.  If you haven't signed up yet, contact your county 4-H office and become a member today.

 

Skills to Achieve Mastery

  • Learn how to reduce accidents and injuries, recognize and correct hazards, and think and practice safety.
  • Encourage the entire family to become safety conscious.
  • Learn how safety can be applied to any 4-H program or project.

Step It Up

Pass it on! Now that you know how, share it with others. Here are ideas to get you started.


Communication

  • Present on creating safety escape plans for fire, tornado, and other disasters.
  • Talk about different common safety symbols everyone should know.
  • Share the importance of ATV safety with your 4-H club.

Citizenship

  • Hold a farm safety day for your school or farmers in your community.
  • Conduct a fire drill at home for your whole family.
  • Talk to your community about the importance of wearing seatbelts.

Leadership

  • Give presentation on how to safely handle electrical equipment.
  • Create a poster about how to form a family emergency escape plan.
  • Give presentation on how to reduce injuries during sporting events by proper warm-ups, training, & activities.
