STEM Activity Showcase

Iowa 4-H Lego Academy
LEGO® Academy built capacity with our brave volunteers who jumped head first into working with LEGO® MINDSTORMS! Volunteers were able to become more familiar with the robots; learn more about programming them; and learn how to better utilize the sensors.

Iowa 4-H Robotics Challenge and SET Showcase
4-H robotics clubs from all over the state gathered to participate in this Challenge Event. Teams put a year’s worth of learning to the test as they designed, built, and programmed a robot capable of navigating the obstacle course. Teamwork, engineering design principles, and good old creativity won the day!
Northwest Iowa Tech Team & Sac County Barn Quilts

Technology savvy 4-H'ers used Garmin eTrex GPS receivers to collect the latitude and longitude positions of over 50 historic barns with colorful painted wooden quilt blocks in Sac County. The 4-H'ers then downloaded the valuable data into Google Earth files to create both an internet based driving tour of the historic barns and a printable map. Over 180 hours was invested collecting datapoints and teaching youth about geospatial technologies and careers in this real-world project
