Culturally-based Youth Leadership Accelerators

“Belonging is more than tolerance, acceptance, or inclusion. Belonging means we feel connected, important, valued, part of the group. It is our group, our program, our community.” – Bengu Erguner-Tekinalp, Ph.D.

Registration for the 2017 Maize Retreat (April 21-23) is now CLOSED! We look forward to welcoming all Iowa youth in grades 9-12 (who have not previously participated) attending the Culturally-based Youth Leadership Accelerator (CYLA), known as Maize.

The Maize Retreat provides youth the opportunity to explore the Iowa 4-H Youth Development Program and Iowa State University. Youth participants from across Iowa will gather to experience 4-H Healthy Living, STEM, Citizenship, Leadership, and Communication and the Arts programs through a Latino and Native American perspective. The Maize Retreat is held on Iowa State University campus and the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid, Ia. Join us for a weekend of cultural celebration, learning and leadership experiences, and FUN!
