4-H Commodity Carnival

The Carnival is back...will there be PIGS or BEEF for 2017?

Come and join the fun at selected county fairs as well as the Iowa State Fair Aug. 10-19 in the 4-H Exhibits Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds.  The Commodity Carnival is a fun, interactive and hands-on game that allows kids, and parents alike, to experience what it takes to raise a pig, feed it, and find out the answer to the real question - did you make a profit?

Volunteer at the Iowa State Fair!

We are on the hunt for youth and adult volunteers to help out during the State Fair Commodity Carnival event.  We will have two volunteer sessions each day to work the booth.  This would be a great opportunity for a local 4-H club. Sign up today!

2017 Ag Commodity Carnival COUNTY Sign Up

The Commodity Carnival is back! The species focus of either beef or swine is yet to be determined. There is no cost to Counties to host the Ag Commodity Carnival. We provide all the supplies you need.
You WILL need 2 -3 youth teens and 1 -2 adults to man the activity at your county fair and counties must provide final participant numbers in your report. We can only allow a county to have the kit for 3 days, as we only have 4 kits to travel the state and we’d like to reach as many counties as possible! ***The kits are on a first come first serve basis***
It takes up a 10 foot X 10 foot booth space; designed for a high traffic area of kids grades 3 -8. We would ask that counties work together in transporting the kits between counties. The State 4-H Office will reimburse all mileage.
With so many Iowa county fairs happening in July, Amy will not be able to transport kits from location to location but will help when needed to transport the kits from a county if they’re in the first “leg” or last “leg” of the rotation.
The stipulation of doing this is that the county secures both youth and adult volunteers to man the booth at their fair.
If you’re interested, please provide the preferred dates for the Carnival during your fair by June 1 in this GOOGLE DOC and contact Amy Head at ahead@iastate.edu. RESERVE YOUR DAYS NOW!
