4-H TV Youth Broadcasting: About 4-H TV

Purpose

Participating in 4-H TV is an opportunity for 4-H youth to share their stories and the stories of others with the world through the mediums of  video, audio, and photography. It is a unique way to:

While working on creating new and exciting 4-H TV stories, crew members will gain skills in interviewing, film-making, photography, editing digital video and telling a story.

History of 4-H TV

It started in the summer of '08 as nothing more than a simple idea to have 4-H youth share the story of 4-H. To be able to promote the idea at the Iowa State Fair that August, a simple website was built, a few t-shirts were made, and several 4-H youth volunteered to start recording.

The first interviews were of volunteers setting up the 4-H Exhibits Building for the opening of the state fair. Then the team interviewed Senator Grassley who was visiting the exhibits building to see what the 4-H youth were doing in addition to their showing of livestock in the pavilions. Soon after the first videos, ideas for other stories started to flood in. Examples of these ideas were new interviews of those involved in 4-H, "Share the Fun" presentations, and a tour of exhibits from A to Z.

Each day brought new story ideas and challenges to the newly formed 4-H TV Team. The team of State Tech Team and State Council volunteers worked to capture, edit and publish stories daily to the web and TVs running in the exhibits building at the Iowa State Fair.

The 4-H TV team continues to grow steadily. Each year there are more members and more stories shared. Check out the videos, audio clips and photos section to see examples of their work.
