Who can participate?
Production teams composed of youth enrolled in 5th – 12th grades in the 2010-2011 school year. At least one member of the team must be a 4-H member. (It's easy to join 4-H!)
Production teams:
Between 1 and 10 members, at least one of which must be a 4-H member. (It's easy to Join 4-H!) All awards will be shared among production team members. For more details about the Festival and official submission guidelines click here (pdf).
Category descriptions:
- Educate: Provide information or training on a specific topic
- Inspire: Raise awareness about an issue or call viewers to action
- Just 4 Fun: Videos intended to entertain

After registering:
Your production team will receive:
- Regular Iowa 4-H Film Festival updates and filmmaking tips from a professional filmmaker
- Forms you will need to fill out and send in with your submission (also linked to the right sidebar of this webpage)
- Copies of the Iowa 4-H Film Festival Submission Guidelines and Official Rules (also linked to the right sidebar of this webpage)
- Graphics to include at the beginning or end of your film (also linked to the right side of this webpage)
- An evaluation form for each member of your team to complete before and after participating in this event
Submitting your film:
Films must follow the Submission Guidelines (pdf) and must be in the mail by the July 1 deadline to be evaluated and included in the festival.
The Festival
Every production team who submits a film for the festival will have thier film showcased on the Iowa 4-H website and will receive tickets to the Iowa State Fair on the day of the festival! The Festival itself starts Friday, August 12th at 3:30 in the afternoon. Production teams and Fair goers will gather in the 4-H building on the Iowa State fairgrounds to watch the top three films in each category on the jumbo screen! Everyone will get a chance to vote for his or her favorite film to win the People’s Choice award. When the showcase is over, winning production teams will be called up on stage to receive their prizes and recognition! For more details see the Submission Guidelines (pdf).
Awards:
Two committees will evaluate each submission. The Guidelines Committee will review all submissions to ensure they followed the Official Rules (pdf) and Submission Guidelines (pdf) for the Iowa 4-H Film Festival. The Judging Committee will evaluate and score the submissions. The top three films in each category will be screened at the Iowa 4-H Film Festival event.
