6:00 a.m. – Poultry may arrive
6:00 - 8:00 a.m. - Check-in of breeding, commercial, and market birds at Poultry Building
8:00 a.m. - Market Broilers, commercial and breeding birds will be judged simultaneously. Poultry Presentations will be scheduled throughout the show. Release of animals immediately following all judging
7:00 p.m. - all birds must be off the fairgrounds
Saturday, August 22
2:00 p.m. – Sale of Champions Market Broilers
Q: Where can I park?
A: Lot Q parking passes will be available for $6.00. Lot Q parking lot is located across from the Open Class Rabbit and Poultry Building . You may purchase them when you arrive, or at the same time that you order your discount tickets. Your extension office will have the discount ticket order form.
Q: Do we need to do anything with the Food Safety and Quality Assurance certification for state fair?
A: YES, all poultry exhibitors must include a copy of their FSQA certification along with their entry form and identification forms.
Q: Do I need to worry about the wing bands?
A: Yes - Market broilers exhibitors need to remember that only those birds with the special wing band in place will be accepted for exhibition.
Q: Are there weight limits for the market broilers?
A: Yes -the weight parameters for market broilers are as follows; each pen of five birds must weigh at least 20 pounds. There is no maximum weight. At check-in, market broilers will receive a leg band to indicate which birds will make up your pen of five.
Q: What about a pullorum test?
A: All poultry exhibited must come from U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid clean or equivalent flocks, or have had a negative Pullorum-Typhoid test within 90 days of public exhibition and the test must have been performed by an authorized tester.
Q: When do I give my poultry presentation?
A: Poultry presentations will be schedules throughout the show. Exhibitors must exhibit poultry at Iowa State Fair to be eligible. Exhibitors are not required to qualify at the county level to participate. Iowa Poultry Association has sponsored a plaque for the Champion Poultry Presentation.
