Q: Do we need to do anything with the Food Safety and Quality Assurance certification for state fair?
A: YES, all dairy exhibitors must include a copy of their FSQA certification along with their entry form and identification forms.
Q: When can I arrive on the fair grounds?
A: Animals may begin arriving at 4:00 PM on Tuesday and must arrive at the fairgrounds no later than 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Reminder: Vehicles entering the State Fairgrounds on Tuesday and Wednesday MUST have a "pre-fair pass." Contact your county Extension office for this pass.
Q: How and where do I get my animal checked in?
A: There will be a crew of people that will check-in your cattle for the Youth Dairy Show. They go up and down the aisle and find you. This takes place on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please stay by your cattle and wait for the check-in crew to come to you. 4-H members or a designated person should stay with their animals until clerks have verified your entries. Have your completed yellow entry cards and registration papers ready for the clerks. DHI records should also be available on animals qualifying for production premiums. It is your responsibility to see that those are verified and recorded on the yellow entry cards.
Q: What do I need to have with me for check-in?
A: Have your completed yellow entry cards original registration papers for check-in. No health papers or affidavits are needed at check-in. It would be wise to bring your carbon copy of the 4-H dairy identification forms with you to the fair in case there are questions.
Q: Do the registration papers have to be in the 4-H'ers name?
A: Registration papers must be registered in the 4-H'ers name or show a logical family connection: Example: John Doe could have a heifer registered to Doe Family Farms - that is a logical family relationship. However, papers using the name of Hilltop Acres would not indicate a logical family relationship.
Q: What do I do with the Health Certificate?
A: Please take Health Certificates to the Vet Office located on the south side of the Cattle Barn to be approved and stamped. Then you bring the approved health statement to the barn office where you will receive your T-shirt and exhibitor number.
Q: Where do I get my Exhibitor Numbers & T-shirts?
A: Exhibitor Number and T-shirts are to be picked up Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the cattle barn office. You must have your health papers approved at the vet's office before you receive your T-shirt and exhibitor number.
Q: What about stalling?
A: Every county has been given one stall per animal. A list of the stalling assignments will be posted at the Cattle Barn Office.
Q: I would like to participate in the Showmanship Contest. What do I do?
A: The showmanship competition will take place at the end of the Youth Dairy Show on Thursday, in the pavilion. Classes will be broken into three age categories, juniors, intermediates, and seniors. Each exhibitor is welcome to participate.
Q: When and where is the awards presentation?
A: The awards program will be held on Thursday in the multi-media center (sale ring) in the cattle barn at 3:00 p.m.
Q: When is the dairy judging contest this year?
A: The contest will be held on Wednesday with registration beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Q: I'm in both 4-H and FFA, what do I do?
A: Animals entered in the Youth Dairy Show are limited to those identified in 4-H or FFA but not both. An exhibitor may only exhibit as a 4-H member or a FFA member, not both.
Q: Where can I park?
A: Lot L parking passes will be available for $6.00 each in the office of the Administration Building . You may purchase them when you arrive, or at the same time that you order your discount tickets. Your extension office will have the discount ticket order form.
