What is the Iowa 4–H Center?

The Iowa 4–H Center is a retreat center owned by the Iowa 4–H Foundation and operated in conjunction with the Iowa 4–H Program, the Iowa Extension Service, and Iowa State University. Open for year-round use, the 4–H Center has 360 beds among five villages and is available for anyone to rent anytime. Size of rentals can range from a single eight bed cabin to the whole camp; just let us know what your needs are. 4–H membership is not required to use our facilities or to attend our camps. Staff employed by Iowa State University lead summer camps and seasonal programs in team challenge, outdoor camping, environmental education, shooting sports, recreation, and field schools.

Where are we located?

The Iowa 4–H Center is located on 1100 acres along the Des Moines River near Madrid, Iowa just off highway E-57. We are a short 30-minute drive north of Des Moines and 20 minutes from the Iowa State University campus. The Iowa Arboretum and the Iowa 4–H Center can both be found at the end of Peach Avenue in Boone County. Click here for a map and driving directions.
