  • 20007-2008 4-H Exhibit Judges Trainings were offered in all five Iowa areas: Central, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest.

4-H Exhibit Judges Information

  • If you wish to be placed on the mailing list for 4-H Exhibit Judges Training opportunities, please contact us with your name, full address, phone, and email address either by phone at 515-294-1519 or e-mail to Mary Kay Litzel.
  • If you wish to order 2007/2008 Updates or a Complete Handbook, you may download and print the 2007/2008 Evaluating 4-H Exhibits Handbook & Update Order Information form (PDF), which includes an informational letter, the Handbook/Update order form, and a Judging Preference form.
  • The Evaluating 4-H Exhibits Handbook web page is where you may download and print updates to keep your Handbook current.  Adobe Acrobat Reader will be needed to access most items. You will want to "back" multi-page items. (Just a hint--it is more efficient to order the update packet.)
  • A limited number of 2006/07 UPDATES are also available--$5 each, note this purchase on the Order form.
  • If you are unable to attend 4-H Judges Training, you may find videotapes and other training materials from previous years useful to review.  Contact your county Extension office to arrange for checkout of these materials.  Your county Extension office may also help you obtain copies of 4-H project materials in the areas you judge. 

4-H Livestock Judges Information

Individuals who want to be considered for Iowa 4-H Livestock Judges need to fill out the 4-H Livestock Judge Preference form (PDF download or type-in MSWord.doc). Please be sure that you include livestock show judging experience and qualifications (i.e. county fair judging experience, regional, national show experience, etc.). The completed form should be mailed to the State 4-H Office (or e-mail attached to Mike Anderson). After review, your name may be placed in the State 4-H Judges database where Iowa County Extension offices have access to names of potential livestock judges for their county fairs and shows. 4-H Sewing/Clothing Construction Judges

"At the 2007/08 4-H Exhibit Judges Trainings during the Clothing Construction session, I encourage judges to obtain a copy of 4H 316, “Let's Sew” by Nancy Zieman of “Sewing With Nancy” on PBS and Nancy's Notions catalog and website. You will want to ask your local Extension office to order 4H 316 for you at the ISU Extension Online Store, https://www.extension.iastate.edu/store/, as this publication is only available to Extension staff. The Extension staff price is $4.40. This publication is also available at www.nancysnotions.com but the price is $9.98 plus shipping. I recommend that judges for clothing construction and sewing get a copy, read it and take it to conference judging. I wanted to give you a heads up if you have requests for this publication from the public you will know where it came from! If you have questions, please let me know." (Sue Bogue, 515-294-1533)

4-H Food & Nutrition Judges Information

Below are items presented at the 2004 & 2005 F&N ICN workshops for your reference. Video tapes of the workshops are available at each county Extension office for review.

If you review one or both of these tapes, have the county office e-mail Mary Kay Litzel at the State Office with your name and which tape you reviewed. This will then be added to your judging information in the county available database.
