Blue Ribbon Backups

Creating a Backup using Winzip

Create a backup:
  1. Exit Blue Ribbon on all computers.
  2. Locate your Data folder. (If you do not know where it is, check the bottom of the BR screen for the Data Path.)
  3. RIGHT click on your Data folder.
  4. In the pop-up menu that appears, choose "Add to Data.zip".
  5. This will create a file called "Data.zip" in the same location as your Data folder. You will need to re-name and move this file in order to have a useful backup.
Rename:
  1. RIGHT click on Data.zip and choose "Rename".
  2. Type in your county name and the date: "HarrisonMay06" or "PolkJan07". If the ".zip" was visible on your computer when you changed the name, type it back in.
Move to a new location:
  1. RIGHT click again on the new file and choose "Cut".
  2. Open the window for a different location. RIGHT click in a white (unused) space in that window, and choose "Paste".
  3. (If you have another method to move files from one drive to another, use the one that you are familiar with.)
Send backup to the State Office:
  1. In Outlook, start a new message to bnibe@iastate.edu,
  2. Insert|File, locate and select the ".zip" file that you just renamed and moved.
