Q: When can I arrive at the fair?
A: The earliest horses may arrive is 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. and will end at 12:00 p.m. You MUST check in during the designated check-in times. All horses must be on the grounds by noon Tuesday.
Q: Where do I stall?
A: Stalls will be pre-assigned this year. You will receive your stall assignment as you enter the gate. Stall assignments will also be posted outside the Horse Barn office.
Q: Where can I park the trailer?
A: Park trailers only in the Campbell Lot which is west of Gate 8 on the south side of Dean Avenue. Park pickups in the Rock Island Lot.
Q: How and where do I check-in?
A: Between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m on Monday, there will be a three-step check-in process.
Step 1: Bring your health papers to the Veterinary Office on the south side of the cattle barn to be stamped.
Step 2: Bring your horse(s), signed Drug Disclosure Statement (one per horse), and stamped health papers to the Pavilion check-in site where they will be checked with your 4-H horse identification report (4H 106). Pony measuring will take place here also. Then please return your horse to its stall.
Step 3: Take your signed Drug Disclosure Statement to the Horse Office for check-in. At this step you will check the classes you are entered in. There are no changes after the class cards are checked! It would be wise to bring your carbon copy of the 4-H horse identification forms with you to the fair in case there are questions.
Q: Is there an exhibitor meeting?
A: Yes, please plan to attend. There will be information that you need to know for the show. The exhibitor meeting will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the multi-media center (sale ring) in the cattle barn - right across the street from the horse barn.
Q: Do I need a helmet?
A: 4-H youth participating in all riding classes must wear an American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and Safety Engineering Institute (SEI) approved head gear with chin strap and properly fitted harness while mounted and riding. The helmets must be worn every time, every ride during warm up as well as in the class.
Q: What patterns will I need to know?
A: Reining and showmanship patterns will be posted prior to the show - check the bulletin board outside of the horse barn office.
Q: Will there be a show program that I can use and keep?
A: Show programs will be available the morning of the show. Look for them outside of the horse barn office. They will indicate location and order of the various classes.
Q: We are all done and need to head for home - what do we do now?
A: A Livestock Load-out pass will be needed to get your pickup and trailer back in the fairgrounds to load out. These will be available from the horse office. Please return these before leaving the grounds. Each exhibitor also needs to clean their box stalls by putting their bedding into the alley way prior to departing. Uncleaned stalls are grounds for withholding premiums.
