ISU Sesquicentennial Service Project,
Marshall County Extension, Summer 2007

High on a hilltop, with a view of the Grimes Farm Conservation Area, Nature Center and western Marshalltown, an observation tower will be built in memory of Mildred Grimes. To move the project forward for the Marshall County Conservation Board, the Iowa Valley Leadership Class of 2007 and ISU Extension in Marshall County teamed up to celebrate Iowa State University's 150th Anniversary. Working together, the group scouted design plans and similar projects around the Midwest to present to the board. Design plans were selected and bids were taken in 2007 with fundraising to begin in January 2008.

ISU Extension Director Angie Nelson said, "It has been an honor working towards such a meaningful project. The Grimes family has given so much to our community and county conservation efforts." Plans for construction will commence as fundraising goals are met.
