Jefferson County held our 150th Celebration
May 10 in conjunction with our open house for our newly remodeled office.
We had a great day with more than 200 community members attending at some
point in the day’s activities. Our project has been an ongoing renovation/
remodeling to change the look of the Extension office located on the fairgrounds
and owned by the Jefferson County Fair board. This effort has been a collaborative
effort of many volunteers and community members. The day’s events started
at 11 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m. a ribbon cutting ceremony with the plaque presentation
took place followed by a tree planting to commemorate the event. Dr. Jeff
Iles, Professor and Chair of the Department of Horticulture, was our campus
representative for the event. A wide array of people were involved in this
ceremony including ISU alumni, staff, extension council members, master gardeners,
fair board members, an FFA advisor, and many other community members. At
5 p.m. the 4-H teen council hosted a free will spaghetti supper in an adjoining
building to the extension office. During both the open house and the spaghetti
supper a group of Clover kids held their meeting in the nearby show arena.
This web of activity on the fairgrounds surrounding the extension office
created quite a great day for ISU Extension in Jefferson County!
