As a lasting legacy of Iowa State University’s 150th anniversary celebration, a 45-tree arboretum was planted in Featherstone Park at Twin Lakes on Saturday, June 2. ISU alumni, students, friends, 4-H members, and Extension staff gathered to plant the 15 different tree species with each species of trees planted in a grouping of three. The 15 different species was significant as each represents a decade of Iowa State University’s history. This service project was one of 100 being conducted across Iowa during the year-long Sesquicentennial observance. A permanent commemorative plaque was attached to a rock donated by lake resident Bill Crouse. A grilled lunch was served at noon for those participating. The project was coordinated by the ISU – Calhoun County Extension office staff with assistance from Pat Minnick, Keith Roos, Steve Richardson, Kap Linder, and Bill Crouse. Funding for the project was through a Trees Forever grant.
