
Award nominations are due March 15 each year to the NAE4-HA President. Nomination information is available from your NAE4-HA President. Each current NAE4-HA member should receive a NAE4-HA Member Recognition Award Description and Application booklet in the mail from the national association around early February. Awards will be selected by a committee assigned by the officers of the Iowa Chapter of NAE4-HA. Below is a summary of the award categories and eligibility information.
Recognizes professional achievement of members.
Eligibility: Must be a member of good standing for at least the year prior to the current, as well as the current year. Must have served seven or more years in extension youth programs, as of the year the award is presented.
Iowa may submit one DSA recipient for every 50 paid members.
Recognizes creative and innovative programming
Eligibility: Must be a member who is actively engaged in extension youth programs who has worked three to seven years in creative and innovative programming.
Iowa may select one ASA recipient.
Recognizes members who have completed 25 years or more of service to extension youth work.
Eligibility: Must be a member in good standing for at least the immediate four consecutive years prior to the current year, as well as the current year, and have completed 25 years or more of service to extension 4-H youth work.
Iowa may submit as many as are eligible.
Recognizes the individual who has created a positive extension image through his/her leadership and citizenship as it relates to the development of the 4-H program.
Eligibility: Any current member in good standing is eligible for this award.
Each state may select one recipient for the state/unit award. This state winner will be considered for the national award.
Provides scholarship money for continuing professional development (both degree programs and non-degree programs)
Eligibility: Must be a paid member for the current year of applications and for the previous year. Funds may not be used for coursework/studies that have been completed prior to application.
Any member meeting eligibility requirements may submit application for this national award.
Recognizes outstanding programs conducted for and with teen audiences.
Eligibility: Must be a current NAE4-HA member.
Iowa may select one nominee for each team and individual awards.
Recognizes the use of technology (such as computers, video, satellite, etc.) in delivering or managing educational programs.
Eligibility: Must be a current NAE4-HA member in good standing.
Iowa may select one nominee for each division (youth audience and adult audience).
Recognizes staff for significant accomplishments in the area of youth-at-risk. (Up to 35 awards of $1,000 will be given.)
Eligibility: Any Extension staff member currently employed at any level and in all program area (youth, ag, families, communities, etc.), and actively involved in youth-at-risk programming. Does not need to be a member of NAE4-HA.
Any staff meeting eligibility requirements may apply for this national award, but must meet state association deadlines for submission of application.
Recognizes outstanding effort by staff in national resources/environmental stewardship.
Eligibility: Must be an NAE4-HA in good standing. In the case of team entries, at least one team member must meet eligibility requirements.
Iowa may select one entry (team OR individual) to compete at the national level.
Recognizes outstanding effort and accomplishments in achieving and sustaining diversity in the NAE4-HA organization, programs and/or audiences. Diversity is defined as acknowledging, understanding, appreciating, valuing and celebrating differences among people relative to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, or sexual orientation. (List is not all inclusive but not limited to those that are mentioned.)
Eligibility: Must be a current NAE4-HA member.
Iowa may select one entry to compete at the national level.
Recognizes members for significant accomplishments in presenting 4-H to the general public, civic groups, 4-H groups, or individuals through public information methods.
Eligibility: Must be a current member in good standing at least the prior year, as well as the current year. In the case of team entries, at least one member must meet eligibility requirements.

Greenwood Fellowship
This award is sponsored by NEAFCS to give members an opportunity to
pursue professional improvement through graduated study in the area
of their own choosing. Two fellowships of $1000 will be awarded.
Eligibility: A minimum of 5 years membership in NEAFCS is required. Study must be started within 12 months after the award is granted and consist of a period of not less than nine months.
Grace Frysinger Fellowship One fellowship of $1000 is awarded. The fellowship is to provide an opportunity for an Extension Educator in Family and Consumer Sciences to study and observe family and consumer sciences education in other states or countries. It is to be used for 2 to 4 weeks travel, living expenses, and duplication of the report of the recipient.
Eligibility: Applicant must have had a minimum of 5 years membership in NEAFCS. Study must be completed before the annual session following the one at which the fellowship has been awarded.
This award is to recognize one professional Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Educator who is conducting outstanding educational programs that demonstrate impact on families. The award consists of a plaque and $1000. The cash is to be used for professional improvement or for the development of media and/or support materials for new educational programs. Four semi-finalist will receive a certificate.
Eligibility: Persons who are current members and have received both the DSA and Continued Excellence Award.
The award recognizes NEAFCS members who have been actively involved in professional improvement programs, the promotion of professional development of others, and leadership.
Eligibility: The applicant must have been a member of NEAFCS for at least 12 years and have received the NEAFCS DSA award. Applicant must have attended 3 annual sessions.
Distinguished service awards are available to staff who have given outstanding service to extension programming and who have maintained personal and professional growth programs over a period of years. Iowa may choose one award annually.
Eligibility: A minimum of 10 years membership in NEAFCS (formerly NAEHE).
The Florence Hall Award is presented for an outstanding program conducted by one or more NEAFCS members who have been alert in recognizing new concerns and interests of families and have involved people in planning and implementing programs that benefit families. Six awards of $300 each are presented. The award is to be used for professional improvement that will serve the interests and needs of the recipients.
Eligibility: Program should have begun within the past 5 years. Entry may be submitted by an individual or a team.
Two national awards of $250 each are presented annually to outstanding new professionals. The awards are to be used to defray the cost of attending the NEAFCS annual session.
Eligibility: The applicant must be in the first 3 years of employment in Extension.
Two awards of $1000 each will be granted to individuals or teams. The monetary award is to be used by the recipients to further develop skills in public affairs education.
Eligibility: Persons who are current members of NEAFCS with a minimum of 3 years as a full-time employee.
One $100 award will be presented to an outstanding para-professional to recognize accomplishments in FCS programs, including youth programs.
Eligibility: The para-professional must have been employed at least two years at the part-time equivalent of two years in the present position and be working with or supervised by an Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Educator who is a member of NEAFCS.
The two $100 certificates are given to Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Educators who have developed an outstanding educational program on some aspect of family financial management.
Eligibility: Entry may be submitted by an individual or a team. The program must have been successfully used by the applicant prior to entry.
The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding efforts and accomplishment of individuals and/or teams in diversity and pluralism. One $250 award and certificate of recognition will be presented to further develop skills and/or programs in diversity and pluralism.
Eligibility: Individual or team entry. The program or activity shall have been conducted within the past year. The National winner will present a concurrent session or participate in the Showcase of Excellence at the next annual session.
This award is to recognize NEAFCS members as both researchers and users of research. This award emphasized the use of research results to improve existing programs or to develop new programs. Eligibility: May be submitted by an individual or a team. Applicant must be willing to present the research during annual session.
A certificate of recognition and $200 will be awarded to the winning entry in each of the following:
Second and third place national winners will receive certificates.
Eligibility: The communications program shall have been conducted within the past 2 years.
The grant is awarded to individuals desiring to develop media materials emphasizing nutrition. Five $500 grants will be provided by Kraft Foods. Monies must be used to develop materials such as, but not limited to: videotape, slide/script, slide/tape, film transparencies, display, exhibit, study packet, brochure.
Eligibility: May be submitted by an individual or a team. Evidence of completed project must be presented a the annual session following receipt of grant. Money must be returned if the project is not completed.
Distinguished Service Awards are available to staff who have given outstanding service to extension programming and who have maintained personal and professional growth programs over a period of years. Iowa may choose two awards annually. Eligibility requirements limit nominations to extension staff who have maintained membership in the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) for ten years. They must also be willing to attend the national association annual meeting.
Achievement awards are for NACAA members with less than 10 years of experience with Extension. They must be willing to attend the national association anuual meeting.
